The minimum order quantity (MOQ) is the minimum number of units you must order for your vendor to accept your purchase order. In Inventory Planner Essentials, MOQs are set per variant. If a purchase recommendation falls short of a variant’s MOQ, Inventory Planner will scale up the “To order” quantity to meet the MOQ.

The effect of MOQs can be seen in the Purchase screen. In the example below, the requirement is for 149 units to meet expected demand within the planning period. However, the vendor’s MOQ for this variant is set to 200. As such, the “To order” quantity is scaled up to meet the vendor’s requirement. When creating a purchase order, the ordered quantity will be set to 200.

Setting MOQs in the variant catalog

MOQs are a vendor attribute and are configured in the variant catalog. Each vendor assigned to a variant can have its own MOQ or it can be left blank if there is no minimum.

Updating MOQs on a purchase order

MOQs can also be updated when editing a purchase order. If the ordered quantity is below the new MOQ, a warning icon is displayed next to the line item's quantity with an action to “Increase to MOQ”.

A warning also appears in the “Less than MOQ” tab of the PO. Clicking this warning will filter the order lines to only show those that are below the MOQ. An action button appears at the top right to “Increase to MOQ” which will update the ordered quantity for each affected line item to meet its MOQ.

When saving the PO, tick the box to “Update vendor attributes” to save the MOQ as a vendor attribute so that it will apply to future purchase orders.
